Tax on Property??Utilities Bills??Charges??
Hi
I bought an aparment in 2006 but didn't get around to sorting out the local tax and bulstat.Well we actually thought the solicitor had done it as we had paid him to do it.So recently we realised we needed to do it.
Unfortunatley we only got the opportunity now to do it and it involves going to the bulgarian embassy at home and getting Power of attorney done there.
But we have now been told by our solicitor that there will be a fine - late penalty as a result.
Does anyone have any idea of how much this is????!!!
We also will have to pay the last 3 years tax.Anyone know what the yearly tax is.
Any chance of the knowledgeable Frank assisting?
Also just wondering what people are been charged for utilites e.g. electricity ----rental and usage. And for yearly maintenance.
Thanks

Yes, the knowledgeable Frank knows. He just can't get around to look into these matters. You did not care about the property you own. Why should he?

I have some Irish clients too. And they are the only ones I have problems with. Because they don't realise that owning a property also requires some kind of responsibility, Well, they know now.
I neither know what your annual tax is (it kind of depends on the size of your apartment and such factors) and therefore have no clue what the penalty for the last three years might be.
In 2007 "you realised we needed to do it". But you did not!
Your level of ignorance (sorry, I find no other word to describe it) just shatters me. I hope they will fine you enough so that you will care in the future.
Adh mór ort,
Frank

Frank,
I am surprised by you. Too much Greek seafood?
I know you will help these people out, I know your comments are correct.
Lend a hand, your reward will be in Heaven.

Regardless of what Frank or anyone else quotes, you need to pay this bill and pay it immediately. Its not going to ease the pain for anyone to 'quote' an approximation.
I'm also amazed that you knew since 2007 - have you been in a time warp? Taxes, etc. have to be paid so bite the bullet!
I don't think Frank has any sympathy for you or any of his Irish clients, by the sound of it. He must have got a bad batch - we're not all like that you know.
Slán go fóill and exercise your Irish charm as much as possible in the Bulgarian Embassy - it might work, who knows! Good luck!

Harrowell, you beat me to it - I was contemplating a comment and you slipped in - but saying that, we all make mistakes, so a bit of sympathy wouldn't go astray, would it Frank?

Ireland was my first Bulgaria - more than 20 years ago. My heart was there. At a time when Ireland was poor and there was no business. My development company is called "Ardmore Properties". Because I loved the Irish even more than the Bulgarians now. But they let me down. Here in Bansko. They just can't be bothered. Different priorities.
The Irish are the most charming people on the planet (I know, being now an ex-member of the Dublin "Arts Club"). No better time in my life. But all was on the local turf. Now, in far away Bulgaria comes the moment of truth. You own something - you look after it. Reality of life. I have owned a lot in my time when I was younger and wanted to own "the world". When I got divorced I sold everything and I vowed not to own anything again ever. Because I wanted to be free.
"Owning" means responsibility! I am lucky (or maybe just crazy enough) that I was able to carry all my buyers to realise that they had bought a part of Bansko. Not only an investment. And that this comes with enjoying Bansko, being interested in the local culture and the nature. It did not work with my Irish clients initially. The Irish bought with the idea that someone else would look after their interests (for free, of course) and they could reap in the benefits. I had to teach them the hard way.
Charming ? Yes, they are. Realistic? No.
You are right in that I have no mercy with people who only want to take. Charming or not.
Your man on the rakiya-infested knoll,
Franlk

Frank, you can be a very cheeky rascal.
I think that regarding a whole country's people by experiencing a few is, these days, often called "racism" ( NO I am not accusing you of that).
The first time I visited the Irish Republic, about 40 years ago, I thought it was the poorest Western European country I had ever seen.
Last time I was there, 4 years ago, it was "The Celtic Tiger" in economic terms.
I believe that has now gone "belly up".
I think Bulgaria has a lot to learn from the Irish experience, both for good and bad.
Your man on the shamrock covered knoll.

You know Frank, I can understand what you're saying here. I used to live in London - lived there for 12 years having left a "third world country - Ireland". There was no work for us and we were encouraged to emigrate by our government so we did. We were educated but our country could not provide any work!
I loved London while I lived there, but felt it was nowhere to bring up children so I returned to my homeplace. To be honest, I've been real disappointed since my return (now 15 years) - because while I was gone, people got wealthy and became so materialistic (I think both goes hand in hand) and as a result, people lost the true meaning of life. I know that might sound pathetic to some people, but that's how I see it.
I enjoy a healthy debate, especially with other nationalities as it gives a broader spectrum of life. Its disappointing to hear that your recent experiences with Irish investors is negative, I also get the impression that you're not overly impressed with British investors - its probably a result of accumulated wealth but lack of appreciation of the simple things in life.
To finish, I live in the country - have great mountain views, have developed my garden to encourage wildlife - frogs, hedgehogs, birds, bees, etc. I love to watch the thrushes sunbathe in the garden, the birds on the feeder and the frogs hopping around my gate on a rainy night - you can't beat that. I'm rambling on and should go to bed but have to have my pennies worth first!

I will come back to your lovely post tomorrow, Corolla. Now I am utterly pissed and have to stagger to bed (trying not to stumble over my dogs),
Good-night-ly,
Frank

Frank,
Do not try to butt in with my new romance with Corolla.
I saw her her first.
She pretends to be an Irish woman with children, I happen to know she is 22 (she likes "Take That") years old, superfit from her skiing, and we are going to Paris for an exciting week together.
What do you have to offer, apart from being rich, cosmopolitan, intelligent, sophisticated, etc. etc. (Oh b**ger I think I've shot myself in the foot here)?
Your doddering bloke (old enough to know better but what the hell) on the grassy knoll.

Taxes, etc. have to be paid
This is a debatable point

Re: Tax on Property??Utilities Bills??Charges??
Hi
I bought an aparment in 2006 but didn't get around to sorting out the local tax and bulstat.
I have been told you do not need a bulstat number unless you need to declare income from renting your apartment.
I too will be paying my real estate taxes and waste taxes for the first time since 2005 (and no doubt a fine) and will be taking along an local interpreture. I will post the outcome on here.
In the mean time here is what our Frank posted a short while ago on this very subject.
"There is an annual "property tax" (council tax) which includes the garbage collection. This annual tax depends on the tax evaluation of your apartment (which is considerably lower than the price you actually paid for it). It should be in the neighbourhood of 100 Leva a year. Absolutely nothing to get excited about."
