Traditionally at the end of November Bansko hosts the only mountain film festival in Southeast Europe and the Balkans. Its organizers are the Mountain Film Festival Association and the Municipality of Bansko.

The 9th International Bansko Mountain Film Festival runs from November 25th till November 29th and presents about 80 movies, among them the best in the genre of about 25 from 4-5 continents.

Spectators not only get a view of the wildest, most unassailable and most inhospitable places on Earth - from the Antarctic to Alaska, from Papua-New Guinea to the Andes- but also get acquainted with the lifestyle, art, religion and culture of the mountain people.

The emphasis in the retrospective part of the program lies on important events in the history of Bulgarian and world alpinism, with the anniversaries of the remarkable ascents, adventures and discoveries. This year will be marked by the 80th anniversary of the Bulgarian alpinism and Bulgarian cave exploring.

During the film festival in Bansko at the foot of Pirin meet the greatest mountaineers, travellers, hunters of adventure, researchers and representatives of the extreme and mountain sports.

Guests of this year's festival will be the guru of the world grand alpinism Walter Bonati, the legendary British mountaineer Chris Bonington, the best contemporary climber Alexander Huber, most famous American mountain film director and operator Michael Brown, with five Everest climbs and others.

One of the highlights of the festival (Wink) is the world première of the film "My Bansko" made by Christoph Hampe and myself. Don't miss to see it if you are around.

You can see a trailer of the film on the website www.my-bansko.com

Printed programs will be ready by November 15 and available at the Tourist Info Centre in the Community Hall building.

Is this to be in direct competition with "Pirin Street, an everyday story of country folk"?
In this series bewildered foreigners try to avoid the clutches of "the man in the black Merc" and his evil bodyguards.
Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have already signed up (which one will play "The Merc" is under negotiation).
Key casting still remains a problem. Who will play our elderly, fat, bald hero? Helen Mirren, Judie Stench and Vanilla Rednose have already turned down this key role. We await Sean Connery's agent.
The part of "Dancho" will be played by Ricardo de Attenburggy, the other part of "Dancho" will be played by a frying pan.
See you all "on set".
Remember, bring lawyers, guns and money in case we have to deal with the "It Aint Half Hot" mob.
Your luvvie on the grassy knoll.

Frank, its great to see you're back! I'd love to go to the Bansko festival but unfortunately can't go! I had a quick look at your link for 'My Bansko' - the photos are fab - I especially like the one of that handsome guy in the jeep! Laughing

Could you please let us know if the movie 'My Bansko' will be available online after the festival. I'd really love to see it. Your enthusiasm about Bansko, etc. is just admirable - well done! I think they're lucky to have you promote the place and hopefully it will benefit financially!
